Menara KL (KL Tower) spoilt the birhtday celebration!

Yesterday was my wife's birthday. I plan to celebrate it today at Restoran Berputar Menara KL but i canceled it upon reaching the location because they screwed my day!

on 21st April 2011, I made an online reservation for a High-Tea Buffet at Restoran Berputar Menara KL (Seri Melayu) on Saturday, 7th May 2011. It was done after I made an internet research on the available dining options at the restaurant. You can google to find search result saying that the buffet dinner sucks and the lunch buffet is not worth the money. But I found a posting that recommends the Hi-Tea is the best out of the three options. So, I made up my mind and made an online reservation. I received a booking confirmation together with the price few hours later. I booked for 2 adults and 1 child. The price for Hi-Tea is RM55.70nett per adult and RM30.20nett per child. You have lunch buffet at a 5 star hotel for the same price!

Friday 6th May 2011, about 4pm (a day before the event)
Tomorrow will be my first time going to Menara KL. I usually make necessary preparation before going to a place for the 1st time. So I called Menara KL to ask about the parking availability and how to go up to the restaurant from the tower lobby. I was told that the will be a event on Saturday, 7th May 2011 and the parking lot at the hilltop will not be open to public. I was advised to park at an open car park designation for MenaraKL visitors at the bottom of the hill and coach (bus) will be transporting people up to the tower. I am OK with it. I have also surfed www.menarakl.com.my before I called them, so i knew that it is stated in their website that there are 140 parking lots available at the said open parking lot.

Saturday, 7th May 2011, 240pm
We arrived at the bottom of the hill. No signage saying can not go up for parking. No body giving any instruction at the main entrance and furthermore it's my first time there. So i just followed the signage available. Turn left and went up the hill as per the arrow at the main entrance. Picked up the parking ticket on the way up. No notice available saying that the parking is closed.

Upon reaching on top of the hill, a parking attendant (looks like a security guard) told me to park at the bottom of the hill as there is an event there (Pesta Negeri Perak). I am OK with it so drive down the hill to the parking lot as per instruction.

Entered the open parking area at the bottom of the hill. Unfortunately, it is closed for an event later tonight, the KL Tower International Night Towerthon. There is an event registration counter there. I went meet a MenaraKL staff available there. Asked her where should I park my car. Earlier she thought that I was there for the Towerthon, so she advised me to park in any of the building around MenaraKL, she did mentioned The Weld (jauh tu!). After I told her I am there for a Hi-Tea she said she thinks that it is OK for me to park at the top of the hill just tell the parking attendant that i have a Hi-Tea reservation. I asked her to confirm it for me as i tried to call them but the phoned was not picked up. She called somebody at MenaraKL and then she told me that I can go up and park there. So I drove back up!

Arrived at the parking area at the hill top. Some of the parking lots are filled but there are still some empty ones but they have put tape surrounding it (like the police crime scene tape) to prevent cars from parking at the empty lots. So i stopped at the road side, looking for some body to ask about the parking. I saw a security guard asking the cab in front of my car to move. He is also asking me to move. I waived to call him as I needed to tell him that I was advised that I can park there since i have made reservation for a Hi-Tea. I just wanted to ask where should I park my car as the MenaraKL staff said I can park there. He resisted to come. I waived harder and called him to come over. He was just beside the cab in front of my car but he did not came over. I called him again then... he shouted asking me to move down the hill. I shouted back to tell him that I wanted to ask a question. I heard him shouting again asking me to move my car and he also responded by saying 'EMOTIONALLAH PULAK, JALANLAH!' I was really pissed off. I was earlier calling him nicely and he is shouting at me. I want to get out of the car and to confront him but my wife asked me to drive off as not to create any unwanted tense there. I was very angry as it is a special day that I have planned almost a month ago and they screwed up my day! I just drove away while dialing to call the restaurant to explain my problem. I have no mood to eat anymore.

A lady picked up the phone. I told her the whole story. I complained about the parking to her. She said that the restaurant is just a tenant there and MenaraKL is the owner of the place. I asked her to forward my complain to the MenaraKL management. She said that they have done it many times before as they received lots of complaint about parking from their client whenever MenaraKL holds an event there. She also said that MenaraKL usually inform them of an event just few days before the event. This parking problem is also affecting the restaurant's business. Nothing much that she can do about it. I told her that I am there to celebrate my wife's birthday and you guys have ruined my day! She apologized many times but she can do nothing about it. I told her to cancel my reservation and  I hung up the phone then.

I was really pissed off and angry as I have planned the occasions weeks earlier for a surprise to my wife as Restoran Berputar Menara KL is the 4th highest located restaurant in the world and it should have good a view while dining (my office building is much taller that MenaraKL, i don't really give a damn about the height of the KL Tower but I chose the place just because it is the 4th highest located restaurant in the world !) My wife has also started yelling at me. I know she is very sad, it is her birthday and it only comes once a year! It is already 3.30pm and we have not had our lunch yet. I know that my 5 year old daughter is very hungry already. I don't think I can walk-in to any hotels for a hi-tea (if available) without a reservation on a Saturday. Of course I don't want to celebrate a birthday at a normal place, at least it must a special place as it is a birthday. At the end we just had lunch at KENNY ROGERS!! My wife was very sad that i can see tears dropping from the tip of her eyes! I will never forgive MenaraKL for what they have done and I will never go there again! and I will never recommend any of my friends to go there and i will say 'DON'T GO!' if anybody asked me about going to MenaraKL!

To MenaraKL! You guys ruined my wife's speacial day and I will make sure you will regret it!
